Autosuggestion – Unlocking the Power of Your Subconscious Mind

If you’re reading this I can only assume that you have a desire to become an Inspired Money Maker and to make money doing what you love. If you haven’t already read them, I would suggest you read my article on Having the Courage to be Rich and study the process of Turning Your Wishes into Desires. You will also want to learn how the emotion of Faith is the Starting Point of All Accumulation of Riches. Let’s say that you’ve done these already. You’ve written out a specific statement of the amount of money you desire to have, a time frame for its attainment, along with exactly what you intend to give for the money. You also have written out at least a starting point of a plan towards attaining it and put the plan into action, right? Well, there is one final step to this process we covered and that is Step 6 which is:

(STEP 6) “Sixth, read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. As you read - see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.”

Have you been doing this? If your life is anything like mine, you’ve probably gotten busy with other things and perhaps you may have forgotten about it, or simply haven’t had time to read it aloud twice daily. What you may not be aware of is that doing this has a subconscious effect of moving you away from the feeling of Faith and more closer towards the feeling of Hope in regards to your desire. What’s wrong with Hope? Nothing; hope is a warm and fuzzy feeling that feels pretty good, but in order to actually get your desires we have to move past Hope and into the feeling of Faith. In my written statement, I wrote out my desire which is:

“I desire to earn $2,000,000 or more by helping to Inspire, Teach and Ignite the Passion within people to awaken them and help them become Inspired Money Makers doing what they love, or something better by Tuesday, October 6, 2009 or sooner.”

The next step is to turn that desire statement into Faith, not Hope. Hoping it will happen is great, but for it to actually happen I must turn that feeling of Hope into a feeling of Faith. Does that make sense? In order for you to have the money you desire, making it doing what you love, you MUST get your inner state of being to be one of Faith, not Hope. You must have the feeling of Faith that you will reach your desire, not the feeling of Hope. Please don’t equate the word Faith in this context with any kind of religious meaning. It simply means that you BELIEVE that you will achieve your desired outcome, even though you may have no actually evidence or proof that this will happen for sure. Most likely, you already have this feeling of faith in your life with certain things; it’s just that you don’t think about it. For example, if you’re a pet owner like me, you may have faith that your dog won’t bite you when you go to pet him. You don’t really know for sure whether he will or not, but you act from a belief of faith because why would he bite you? He hasn’t before, so why would he now? Another example might be a feeling of faith that your spouse won’t cheat on you or that your boss won’t fire you, or that your house won’t catch on fire the next time you go out. Do you really know for sure that your spouse won’t cheat on you or that your boss won’t fire you or that your house won’t catch on fire? No, you don’t, but if you do have feelings of faith in these types of circumstances, how do those feelings come about? They come about based on previous experience. For example, you might have pet your dog 5,000 times already and he never bit you, so why would you think he might now? You wouldn’t. Your subconscious mind produces a feeling of faith based on previous experience. If you’ve been in a relationship or multiple relationships where your spouse has cheated on you, you might just as easily have faith that your next spouse will do the same. Your faith is based on repetition of pattern. It’s really easy to have faith in the sun rising tomorrow because it’s done that all my life. Faith is a feeling that is in our lives everyday, we just don’t normally think about it. In a lot of cases when someone says the word “Faith” people instantly think it has something to do with religion. You do not have to be religious to feel a feeling of faith. The religious “Faith” is the faith in God, but here I am not writing about faith in God, I am writing about having the experience of faith as a feeling towards your desire to become an Inspired Money Maker and to be able to make money doing what you love. This feeling is what we must get to with our desires to become Inspired Money Makers. The challenge is that unlike having faith in your dog not biting you or that the sun will rise tomorrow; most of us have not yet become Inspired Money Makers so it’s not as easy to have faith towards something we haven’t done yet. You must learn to develop Faith that you will become an Inspired Money Maker and make money doing what you love even though you will not have any proof or evidence that this is going to happen. Believing you can be a millionaire AFTER you’re already a millionaire is EASY. Anyone can do that. Believing you can be a millionaire BEFORE you become a millionaire is not as easy. This is where faith comes in. So how do we do this? How does a person who’s never been a millionaire develop a feeling of faith that he or she WILL become a millionaire? How does an unshakable faith like this get developed? Autosuggestion. Autosuggestion is the process of automatically SELF-SUGGESTING things to your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is always on, it is always being influenced. When you watch TV, when you watch movies, when you’re reading books, even when you’re reading this Blog; your subconscious mind is being influenced. The challenge is that you’re not aware of this, because it happens automatically. The key here is to learn to consciously learn to influence your subconscious mind. This is what the process of autosuggestion really is; a method of communicating between the part of your mind that’s conscious and the part that’s subconscious. In his book “Think and Grow Rich”, Napoleon Hill states:

“Through the dominating thoughts which one permits to remain in the conscious mind (whether these thoughts are negative or positive in immaterial), the principle of autosuggestion voluntarily reaches the subconscious mind and influences it with these thoughts.”

Notice that he didn’t say “permits to enter”; he said “permits to remain”. Remember this subtle distinction. We all possess absolute control over the material that reaches our subconscious mind, but the majority of people do not exercise this control and this is one of the main reasons they live lives of poverty. To be able to reach your desires in life, you must learn to have control over your own subconscious mind. In my previous article (So You Have a Desire to be Rich… What To Do Next ) I wrote out the exact process of what you need to do to turn your desires into riches. If you followed through with the exercise in that article, you should now have a written down statement from the exercise. In Step 6 of that exercise you were instructed to read your statement aloud twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. You were also instructed to see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money you desire. Now let’s start creating FAITH in reaching your desires, rather than just Hoping for them. Hope is warm and fuzzy, but wouldn’t you actually want to experience what it feels like to actually have the things you desire instead of just experiencing the feeling of Hoping for them? When you read your statement out loud and you visualize seeing and feeling and believing yourself already in possession of that money, you MUST associate emotion to this process. Just saying the words like you were reading the morning news, half asleep, is not enough. If you’re bored, your subconscious is ignoring you. You have to smack it awake and make it listen by telling it very clearly that what you desire is important. To really make your subconscious mind listen, you need to engage your emotions. The more emotional juice you feed it, the more it listens. This is where most people fail in this process. They may write down a desire like mine, wanting to make a certain amount of money doing what they love and then they visualize it once, or twice, most likely with no emotion whatsoever and then that’s it; they go back to their daily lives and say “That stuff doesn’t work.” It’s not that “this stuff doesn’t work”, it’s that you’re not working this stuff. It’s like trying to operate a remote control for your TV without putting batteries in it. You can press the buttons all you want, but nothing will happen until you put batteries in it, no matter how hard you push the buttons. Napoleon Hill writes:

“The subconscious mind takes any orders given it in a spirit of faith, and acts upon those orders, although the orders often have to be presented over and over again, through repetition, before they are interpreted by the subconscious mind.”

Now here’s the really cool part:

“Consider the possibility of playing a perfectly legitimate ‘trick’ on your subconscious mind, by making it believe, because you believe it, that you must have the amount of money you are visualizing, that this money is already awaiting your claim, that the subconscious mind must hand over to you practical plans for acquiring the money which is yours.”

What this means is that if you ‘trick’ your subconscious mind into believing that you must have this money by repetitive visualization coupled with the emotion of faith, and expect that it will deliver practical plans for the attainment of this money, then that is exactly what it will do. You can’t, however, wait for the practical plans to arrive first before you do the visualizing and faith building. Perhaps I can explain it better with my practical example. Once again, here’s my desire I wrote out:

“I desire to earn $2,000,000 or more by helping to Inspire, Teach and Ignite the Passion within people to awaken them and help them become Inspired Money Makers doing what they love, or something better by Tuesday, October 6, 2009 or sooner.”

So what did I do next? I visualized already achieving this outcome and I said to my subconscious mind: “Subconscious mind, listen, I know that even though I haven’t even made a $100 from my Blog yet or from helping people become Inspired Money Makers doing what they love, and I really have no proof or evidence that I will make $2,000,000 or more doing this by Tuesday, October 6, 2009 or sooner, I don’t care because I know that somehow, some way, this is possible and I will make this happen and nobody can stop me and it’s going to be great and I’m going to really love doing this and it’s going to happen even sooner then I think and I can totally feel the excitement and joy and gratitude I will feel for having accomplished this so I will await your plans for me achieving this and I will implement them when you send them.” That’s kind of what I do. I tell my subconscious mind what I want and I tell it that it’s important for me and I wait for it to tell me what I should do. Sometimes it will respond by making a book that I need to read come into my life, or I’ll meet a person that is instrumental to my plan, or a project will fall into my lap or I’ll get inspiration to write an article like this one. Last week I got the inspiration to drop Wordpress and switch my entire Blog over to software called Expression Engine. It took a lot of setup work, and I had to design my own theme for it because Expression Engine doesn’t have as much theme support as Wordpress, but that is what my gut was telling me to do and so I did it. That’s part of my plan. Now I have my new design almost finished and today I was inspired to write this article so here I am writing it. You see, for me, writing this article is part of my plan. I don’t know exactly how it all is going to lead me to my desire and I don’t have to. I have faith that it will happen and I have faith in my subconscious mind. One last thing Napoleon Hill talks about specifically about visualizing the money you intend to accumulate. He says:

“When visualizing the money you intend to accumulate, (with eyes closed), see yourself rendering the service, or delivering the merchandise you intend to give in return for the money. This is important!”

Remember that we’re working on become Inspired Money Makers who make money doing what we love. It’s important not to forget to visualize doing what we love and rendering that as a service for the money we desire. For me that is the process of Inspiring people and Teaching them and Igniting the Passion within them to become Inspired Money Makers. I visualize myself doing that. In fact I can visualize someone reading this article right now and getting inspired by it.

Perhaps, it’s even you.
