Reaching 50 RSS Readers Gives Your Site Social Proof
Shortly after I launched this blog, I signed up for Blog Mastermind" href="http://www.blogmastermind.com/blueprint/?home=1116" target="_blank">Yaro Sterak’s Blog Mastermind courses. One of the lessons Yaro teaches talked about RSS feeds and specifically mentioned that it is a good idea not to show your feedburner chiclet when your RSS subscriber count is low. Yaro suggests not showing the chiclet until you’ve got around 50 subscribers or more.
Apparently, having a small RSS subscriber count works against you due to the fact that people typically follow social proof, and when a site has a small subscriber count such as let’s say 5, it makes people wonder why only 5 people have subscribed so far and they tend to delay signing up until more people join the party.
Well, today I logged into my feedburner account and saw that I already had 47 people signed up for my RSS feed so I figured that’s close enough to the 50 person mark Yaro suggests and I put the chiclet back on my site. It was part of the original site design when I designed it so it always looked bare without it being there.
If you haven’t signed up for my RSS feed yet, be a pal and sign up so I get the 3 more people I need to reach 50. Supposedly after 50, people visiting the site get hypnotically mesmerized to sign up and join the party automatically.
By the way, if you have a new blog and you’re currently displaying a feedburner chiclet with only 5 subscribers and you’re wondering why it’s not growing, this could be the reason.
