What’s Stopping You From Making Money Doing What You Love?
Imagine being able to do what you love and to have all the financial abundance you want every day.
Does that sound like a pipe dream to you?
Have you ever taken the time to really sit down and figure out what is it that’s really stopping you from becoming an Inspired Money Maker? What is it that’s stopping you from making money doing what you love?
Earlier this year I ran a survey to find out what is it really that’s stopping people from doing what they love. Here is a partial list of some of the issues that people responded with as the reason why they aren’t yet making money doing what they love:
- Unsure what I love to do.
- Lack of support from my spouse.
- Fear of failing.
- Fear of making long term decisions.
- Want to do it, but doubt always stops me.
- Lack of guidance or mentorship.
- Too busy working for a living to pursue something else that I love.
- Current job sucks, but pays way too much to leave.
- No idea what to do which I’ll love.
- Too comfortable with my current situation.
- I don’t deserve to make money doing what I love.
- No idea where to start.
- Lack of confidence in myself.
- Too hard to make money doing what I love under current government.
- Takes too long to build a business.
- Fear of rejection.
- Fear of success.
- No startup money.
- Fear of going broke, bankrupt and losing my family.
- Afraid of being ripped off.
- I have no passions. I don’t love anything.
- No time to practice my craft.
- Unable to connect with proper people.
- Procrastination.
- Fear of uncertainty. At least my job provides me with certainty.
- Fear of leaving a good job with benefits and pay.
- I get excited about an idea, but then I get bored too easily.
- Unable to stay focused, and unable to manage my time.
- Don’t know how to transition from job to business.
- If I start a business, my social life will suffer.
- I’m not good at sales, so I can’t sell my creations.
- Nobody wants to align with my true purpose.
- I thought my current job was what I loved to do, but now I’m bored of it as well.
- My kids / family needs to be fed.
- Negative thoughts stop me.
- I hate my job, but I love the lifestyle it affords me.
- I’m way too far in debt to start a business.
- I forgot what I’m passionate about.
- What I love doing doesn’t make money.
- Nobody takes me seriously.
- I have no time management skills whatsoever.
- I can’t talk about money with people. I do what I love very well, but I can’t charge them.
- I do my job to make money, and then I do what I love as a hobby. I wish I could do what I love as a job.
Do some of these ring true for you as well? Or is there something else that’s stopping you?
I’d love to hear what’s stopping you guys from pursuing your passion and purpose in life and making money doing what you love. Why not leave a comment and let us know.

Your blog has given me some good thiongs to ponder.
What’s stopping me? 2 things: Don’t know what I love to do and I’m working and attending school - no time to do anything different. Unitl June 2009.
@Susan: What are you studying in school. Maybe that is your passion?
Hi Paul
Another great post and really interesting to see all the different reasons people give for not working at what they love. I particularly like the one about loveing one’s lifestyle, but hating the job as that’s a big one that crops up with the people I work with - that and as many others said, not being clear on what their passions are. My own thought on this is how possible is it to pursue a job you love IF you also have responsibilities (financial, emotional etc) that can act as a break on our actions ie, how does one walk the often fine line between doing what one loves, and keeping others happy. A good example of this might be, wanting to move abroad to live and work, but having relatives to care for who can’t easily travel - always a tricky one I feel, and I’d be interested in your thoughts.
Thanks and all the best.
Perhaps you can find the essence of what you’re passionate about doing without having to travel abroad.
