Wouldn’t It Be Nice If…
Two days ago I found an amazing little gem in the Esther Hicks book “Law of Attraction“. It’s a neat little Law of Attraction exercise that I’ve been testing out and getting amazing results from. I believe its power comes from the detached nature of the intention you set.
Here’s how it works.
You basically sit down, grab your journal or a piece of paper and a pen and start to write the sentence “Wouldn’t it be nice if…” and then fill in the blank. Basically, anything that pops into your head you write it down. Even if it’s completely crazy like “Wouldn’t it be nice if I could fly to mars?” or something that your logical mind would consider completely impossible.
This is not the same thing as sitting down to set goals, intentions or things you want to manifest. This is more of an expansive, dream-like exercise where you allow your imagination to run wild. You could put things like “Wouldn’t it be nice if I was 20 years old again.” if you want on this list, even if you’d never set that as a goal or intention because your logical mind believes that to be an impossible thing.
Just let your imagination run wild, and keep writing out whatever pops into your head. Don’t worry if some of the answers overlap each other. For example if you write “Wouldn’t it be nice if I had $10,000 this week” and then you write another one that says “Wouldn’t it be nice if I won the lottery” don’t worry about the fact that if you win the lottery you won’t need the $10k anymore. Just write whatever pops up.
I started off this exercise by listing off three or four things that I thought were HIGHLY IMPROBABLE, but since this was an exercise in imagination-expansion and not in goal setting, I wrote them out anyways. What’s crazy is that the #2 item on the list manifested itself the very next day. I didn’t even give it any real thought, I didn’t focus on it, I just wrote it down and kept moving onto the next ones. I just kept writing and writing and I filled two full pages in my journal of “Wouldn’t it be nice if…” phrases. After I was done, I put the journal away and went to bed. No further visualization, or meditation or anything of that kind was required.
I’ve played with a lot of different exercises when it comes to Law of Attraction, some of which had good results for me and some of which I found had no effect. This one is definitely going in my toolbox of things I will use all the time now. Just wanted to share it with you guys.
A good one to start with might be:
“Wouldn’t it be nice if I was making money doing what I love?”

Your efforts are divine. I thoroughly enjoy learning from you. Yes, wouldn’t it be nice if…I were making money doing what I love. Your words echo my hearts deepest intention, succinctly. I know that I know that I know that it is a matter of intent, choice and passion. I love many things and I’ve come to embrace that as a blessing. I am blessed. Thank you!
I like this idea Paul. I think perhaps one of the main benefits of it is that when we write down ‘wouldn’t it be nice if…’ there’s no pressure. It allows us to dream safely and just let ourselves imagine the possibilities. The beauty of such a simple exercise is that when we create a safe space to dream we begin to shrug off some of the ties that bind us and we begin to imagine new futures, new possibilities and perhaps come up with new dreams. The universe in turn opens new doors
Yeah, Paul is great Annette.. I do agree!
Great exercises - I’ve participated in something similar at a seminar years and years ago, and just remembered how much i enjoyed it. When thoughts form, and then hit paper or a whiteboard and become tangible, powerful things can happen. When those same thoughts aren’t really thoughts at all, but rather impulsive responses, the results can be overwhelming to say the least.
Sounds like a great exercise. I’ll give it a go and see what happens.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the pure spirit of love that I am could be felt everywhere and by everyone who is in need?
And wouldn’t it be nice if I could feel my presence in the many places I would like to be in, having the expereiences I long to have, without having to physically move? (I’m thinking of not having to purchase tickets, wait in airports, sit on airplanes, go through immigration etc)?
Wouldn’t it be nice If I had a time-machine….
First thing that came to mind!
After the exercise I felt more calm and centred. Whether the stuff will turn up remains to be seen.
Yeah, it’s definitely a cool exercise. It’s amazing how quickly it manifested things for me. I think it’s because I was completely detached from the outcome since I wasn’t really “trying” to manifest anything, I was simply saying “Wouldn’t it be nice…?”

Paul this is a very powerful technique. Whether or not you beleive there is an external force or not, if it works for you - who cares? I can only see Good in this - it has no downside. I find the process of writing something down not only creates something indelible on paper, but also in my head. My muscle memory of writing it must be a constant trigger. Cool stuff.
