Simple but totally underutilized traffic getting techniques

Anyone care to share any traffic getting techniques they have found to be useful for them, but totally underutilized by most people out there?

I have found that a lot of social media traffic strategies (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) have been stealing the spotlight lately, probably because they're new and novel ways of getting traffic.

However, I'm still finding other traffic sources a lot of people ignore still generate traffic. Here are a few for example:

    - email traffic
    - forum traffic
    - blog carnival traffic
    - comment traffic

My blog isn't high traffic so I guess I'm not the best person to comment. I haven't found that Facebook generates traffic. More a place to broaden the relationship with existing readers.

Regardless how little traffic you get, where is most of it coming from right now?

It's tricky to find out really.

My bounce rate is 80% or so - so it's probably not direct. It is mostly from referrals according to Google Analytics.

Direct traffic will be a problem because I cover health rather than sticking to one topic within this.

I think it is almost all from friends made by commenting on their blogs and by recommendations or guest posts from these friends I've made.

It is hard to be sure but from the kind of stats available it looks like this is the situation.

In the next few weeks I'm going to test article marketing - it will take a while to know if this works I think; the people who use it say you need quite a few articles.
Self-development for those who've been around a bit.
