    Greetings from the UK

Hi all, my name is Jon Howard (I usually go under the moniker of Techdojo in most of the forums I join).

Whilst I am a very experienced and capable software developer (and I know my way round the 'net) I'm considerably less experienced in 'making money online' and obviously this is an area I'd like to address in 2010.

Having decided that working for someone else fulltime is not how I want to end my days, I've dabbled in developing my own software projects - my first PC game 'PipeDreams' has been released, but has suffered from a serious lack of marketing enthusiasm and experience.

Anyway I'm hoping to learn quiet a bit on these forums that will help my software business grow and help me branch out into personal development software and the various mobile market places.

Hope to speak to you all soon (and merry Christmas 8-))

    Jon...

Cool...what kind of game is PipeDreams? Is it like the old Pipe Dreams game I remember playing on the computer back in the early 1990's?

Not quiet, a lot of people seem to think that, thaat game must have been more influencial than I remember 8-) although I think it was more commonly known as PipeMania (A new version for the Nintendo DS was released not so long ago)

However PipeDreams (I always thought the title was a little prophetic 8-)) IS a puzzle game but the story revolves around a plumber who get's overloaded with too much work which eventually starts to suffer due to lack of sleep. The difference is that the player is presented with a screen full of pipe pieces that they have to rotate so that all of the ends all meet up, the player is rewarded with some polished visual effects and a random selection of inspirational quotes, there is also a variety of game modes and hidden "Easter eggs" to find.

Based on feedback I've received I've started work on a new Flash version that can be played online (and eventually Facebook) and I plan to produce both iPhone and Android versions as well.

I'll dig out some links to the different versions and post them for anyone who's interested.

That's the game I was thinking of, the one with the pipes:

You rotate and place different pipes to keep the water flowing. It was a fun game.

Well here's my take on it... 8-)

The above link will download a full version of the game (it's only about 8 meg in size) - completely free for anyone who's reading this thread (besides me and Paul ) - think of it as a late Christmas present, or an early New Years gift if you like.

When you run the installer it will ask for a password, which is "sticksandstones" (without quotes).

Here is also a link to the (work in progress) flash version that will run in a browser on anything that supports flash 9+

    Enjoy

In the practice mode, what do you do to get the water flowing?

    In the flash version.

D'oh - there is no water *oops* the idea of the game is simply to arrange the pipes so there are no free ends, the practice mode is there to allow you to sit and chill for a few minutes without any stress about time limits etc, I put in the jukebox mode (on the options page) so the player could just sit and chill whilst listening to their favorite tracks and have the few odd qoutes pop up in between. The flash version is still under development, although I've just started the iPhone version.
